How can taking yourself too seriously backfire?

You don't have to be the expert at everything all the time

I see keynote speakers, entertainers, and magicians take themselves way too seriously sometimes.

John Duke Logan presenting a leadership keynote at the Forbes Under 30 Summit

They focus so much on themselves and their background rather than creating a fun atmosphere where people feel welcomed.

Over and over I've seen people go on stage without cracking a smile for 60 straight minutes. They act like they don't have any flaws.

They often feel they are superior than everyone else because they are the ones on stage providing value. Audience members will start rolling their eyes and feel like you believe they are inferior than you.

I personally believe the best types of entertainers or keynote speakers should demonstrate that no one is perfect, including them. This can be portrayed by stories where they failed, or in the case above, (badly) dancing to music.

People will remember you if you create a FUN atmosphere.
